Background removal help
Get a clean cutout, check its edges and download your work.
Remove a background from one photo
- Open the Studio Canvas and choose Open an image. PNG, JPG and WebP are supported, up to 20 MB per image.
- Choose a processing quality and size limit. The size limit applies to your next upload; 2048 px uses less memory than 4096 px.
- Choose Remove background. The first use downloads a model, so it can take longer than later images.
- Inspect the cutout and choose Transparent PNG to save it.
Fix edges and missing details
Zoom in before editing small areas. Use Erase to remove leftover background and Restore to bring back parts of the original image. A smaller brush helps around narrow edges. Magic wand removes connected pixels with similar colors; click a background region and adjust tolerance if needed.
Feather softens the cutout boundary. Negative edge adjustment trims the boundary; positive adjustment expands it. Color fringe cleanup borrows nearby subject colors. Apply adjustments gradually and use Undo if the result loses detail.
Zoom on mobile and PC
On PC, use the mouse wheel over the image, or the zoom buttons. Hold Space and drag to move the view. On mobile, use two fingers to pinch and pan. One finger paints when Erase or Restore is selected. Fit centers the whole image, while 100% shows actual image pixels. View zoom does not change export resolution.
Crop an image
Open an image and choose Crop image. Drag inside the selection to move it, or drag its corner handles to resize it. Choose Free crop, Original ratio, Square, Portrait, Landscape, Widescreen or Story from Aspect ratio. Drag outside the selection to draw a new one. You can also enter X and Y position, Width and Height in image pixels; number changes apply when you leave the field. Reset selection restores the largest centered crop for the chosen ratio. Choose Apply crop to update the image and cutout together. Cancel or Escape exits without changing the image. Undo restores the size and pixels from before the crop. Crop applies to the single-image workspace.
Understand processing progress
A loading overlay appears on the image during automatic background removal. Model downloads and other reported steps show their actual percentage; processing steps that do not report progress show an animated indicator. A 100% completion message appears when the cutout is ready.
Process a batch
Open Batch Queue and add up to 20 images. The combined input limit is 100 MB, with up to 20 MB per image. Choose Remove backgrounds to process images sequentially on your device. Download completed images as a ZIP. Stop after current image lets the current operation finish before pausing; you can resume the remaining queue.
Replace the background
Choose a background color or upload a background image after making your cutout. Save with background includes the replacement. Transparent PNG excludes the replacement background.
Export images and save your project
Choose Download / Project to export PNG, JPG or WebP. PNG and WebP can preserve transparency; JPG uses a white fill where there is no background. Save editable Tabaix project downloads a .tabaix.json file that reopens here with Open project. It restores the original image, edited cutout and background, but not undo history. Download image layers ZIP includes separate original, cutout and composite PNGs plus a Tabaix project. Import those PNGs as raster layers into another editor; this ZIP is not a PSD or Canva project. Project files are limited to 50 MB. If an automatic download does not start, use the Save file link that appears.
Continue in Canva
Choose Use in Canva for download instructions. Download your transparent PNG, open Canva, choose Uploads → Upload files and add the PNG to your design. Direct transfer is available only when the integration is configured and you authorize your account; it sends one image, not editable project layers.
If processing fails
Check your connection during the first model download. Try Fast quality, the 2048 px size limit and CPU processing, then reopen the image. Close other memory-heavy tabs. GPU acceleration depends on device support; CPU is the compatible default. Keep the page open while processing and download results before leaving.
Save and privacy
The app does not permanently save your editing project. Read our Privacy Policy for browser processing and optional transfers.
Logo and graphic backgrounds
Use Logo / graphic background for artwork with a consistent background color. It samples corner colors and removes similar areas connected to the image border. Wand tolerance controls how much color variation is removed. This can remove artwork whose colors resemble the background: Undo and reduce tolerance if that happens.
Choose Remove an inner gap, then click each enclosed background area. Use Clean edge colors to reduce color fringe, and check the result against white and charcoal backgrounds. Fine details can still require Erase or Restore. These tools refine the image; they do not train a new AI model.
